Program Description
The Cardiovascular Technology program is a sequence of courses that provide educational opportunities to individuals in didactic and clinical environments that will enable them to obtain skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to graduate and become successful entry-level Cardiovascular Technologist specializing in Invasive Cardiac Catheterization. Cardiovascular Technology is a health technology profession centered on the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac diseases. A cardiovascular technologist performs examinations at the request or under direct supervision of a physician, is proficient in the use of analytical equipment, and provides a foundation of data from which a correct anatomic and physiologic diagnosis may be made.
Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national board examination administered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Accreditation
The Cardiovascular Technology degree program at Southern Crescent Technical College received initial accreditation on November 20, 2020. The Cardiovascular Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT).

Admission Requirements
- Entry into this program is based on competitive admissions criteria
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Submit official high school transcript or GED transcript with test scores and all post-secondary transcripts in an official sealed envelope
- Submit current HESI A2 scores (minimum score of 70 is required for this program). Scores cannot be older than one year at the time of application.
Students will be required to have a minimum grade of C in each core course and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Those who receive a grade below a C on any course may remove themselves from the track progression in the program and may have to wait until the course is offered again (usually the next year) to apply to repeat the course. Admission back into the program is dependent upon space available at the time the course is offered. Students are allowed to complete one Natural Science/Mathematics (MATH1127 Introduction to Statistics or PHYS1110 Conceptual Physics/L) with Cardiovascular Technology program after program acceptance.
The student will be required to take the HESI A2 Examination, which will be a part of the admission criteria. The student’s GPA and HESI A2 combined score will help determine admission into the Cardiovascular Technology program. Students will be placed on the program-ready list according to their program-ready date. All core courses and the HESI exam must be completed before the student is placed on the program-ready list. The student will then complete a program-ready application. Applicants will be accepted into the Cardiovascular Technology program for fall term. The cohort number is determined by clinical affiliate availability. In the event of a tie among program applicants, preference is given to students who have completed all core classes prior to program application.
The College accepts credit from the College Board's College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). A grade of EXP is assigned for awarded CLEP credit. Quality points are not awarded for CLEP, therefore, courses with CLEP credit are not calculated into the GPA during the competitive admissions process.
Note: Prospective students already certified or licensed as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) who wish to complete degree requirements may receive up to 8 credit hours of experiential credit with documentation of a current RCIS credentials by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Cardiovascular technicians not currently nationally registered may receive experiential credit upon becoming nationally registered. Students must complete remaining degree requirements and complete a minimum of 18 credit hours at Southern Crescent Technical College in order to be awarded the degree.
